Is IVF Safe & Covered by Insurance?
Perhaps the most well-known of any fertility treatment is in vitro fertilization, or IVF for short. This is a procedure that has helped couples and individuals the world over become pregnant. It’s considered a safe procedure and is not associated with birth defects, although as it’s still a relatively new procedure, long-term effects are still being determined. This is common with many new procedures, as without firsthand evidence supporting the presence of or lack of long-term effects, it’s hard to say definitively whether they exist or don’t exist.
As new information is being released and new studies are conducted every year, the best piece of advice to stay up to date with the most current findings is to speak with a fertility doctor. As of now, however, there are no birth defects associated with IVF and it’s considered a safe procedure.
Be sure to study this article thoroughly, the problem and the results have various distinctions. As far as getting insurance to pay for the procedure, most insurance companies won’t cover the cost of fertility treatment including IVF. In spite of this, if your insurance policy does cover fertility treatment, it may be covered. Otherwise, it’s very unlikely that the procedure will be covered. This comes as a disappointment to many individuals, as the cost of IVF can be very high.

If IVF is performed in combination with other diagnostic procedures, a portion of the procedure may be covered, but this can vary case-by-case. Combine the fact that insurance doesn’t cover the cost of the procedure with a success rate that’s often lower than patients expect (it can hover just below 50%, or may be significantly lower as in around 10% or less) and the procedure may seem discouraging.
Never the less, there are certain steps that one can take to help improve the chances of IVF being a success. Listening to your doctor and adopting any lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, losing weight or adopting a certain diet is important. Embryo selection aims to choose the embryos with the best chance of developing and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can be helpful for those with male infertility factor. In ICSI, a sperm is injected directly into the mature egg.
Last but not least, with so many variables involved in determining success rates and whether insurance will cover the procedure, it’s best to jump in and get information regarding your particular case. You will never know until you speak with the appropriate individuals.

How much should i rest after IVF? My doc asked me to rest for 2-3 days after IVF and then i can go about my normal routine. I did as she said, didn’t move about much for three days. I asked her esplly about driving and climbing stairs and she said both were fine. Though i do go out of the house to get my injections and at times to my mom's place which is not too far, I’m still a little scared of moving too much?? Should i just avoid everything or is it ok to go to the mall?

Go with how you feel. After my egg retrieval, I took the day off and just hung out on the couch and in bed. My egg transfer ended up being on a Friday so I had the weekend off to rest. For the weekend, I definitely took it easy . . . But still got the basic chores done such as some laundry, cooking, dishes, etc . . . I think that you should take it easy . . . And let your body tell you when enough is enough. Good luck! I hope that you get your BFP!

Just for three days u must be very careful, even u should avoid sex.u can do ur normal routine, but climbing, running aren’t advisable.if u r taking rest.that will sure give u good result. I find many ivf patients are trying for long time so taking rest is very valuable,so pls avoid going out as much as possible. Always keep some doctors phone number who did this for u. Better ask them for certain activities before u do.safer side avoid climbing stairs frequently.but u can go for taking injection, which is very essential and its even more better if u maintain the same timings for injection every day,but its better four u to go very nearable places.

After my IVFs I was told bedrest for only 24hrs, it depends on much more then your activity…grade/condition of embryos, your lining, etc It all rolls into one on how good your chances are of working but do your best to restrict your activity as much as you can. Walking to go to and from somewhere like house to car isn't going to affect anything.
