Can irregular periods effect fertility? I’m twenty-six years old, with one child she's five years old. My fiance and I are talking about trying to have a child right after we get married (we've been together three 1/2 years already). My question is, how does having irregular periods effect fertility? I can go around 4-5 months without having a period easily. Most of the time, I'll go 4-6 months with one regular five day period (no real cramping, heavy flow etc), and then go another 4-6 months w/out one. It took me eight months of trying to have my daughter w/ my ex husband. I just want to know if I’ll have any trouble having anymore children because of this. Just because I don't ovulate does that mean that my egg doesn't drop or does it and then what happens to it? If I don't have a period then what happens then? I’m just confused and really hopeful that we can make a big family together and I’m worried that I’ll have problems. I started my periods at thirteen 1/2 and have had this irregular problems since. Please don't give rude answers! TY!

Yes it can. I myself suffer from infertility. I’ve a child who will soon be 8. I was diagnosed PCOS (polycyclic ovarian syndrome) 3 years ago. This is not the only reason for skipped periods…. “A Missed period is not always as simple as that. A missed period has many underlying causes that actually determine whether or not ovulation has occurred. A period or menstruation is the bleeding that occurs about twelve to sixteen days after ovulation or the release of an egg takes place in a woman. After ovulation has occurred in a woman, the fate of the egg decides whether or not a woman will have her menstrual period. If she gets pregnant and the egg is fertilized, there will be no bleeding although ovulation did occur. If ovulation doesn’t occur in a woman, no egg is released from the uterus, and hence technically there should be no bleeding or periods in the woman at all in that month. Hence, if a woman is not pregnant and doesn’t get her periods, it’s absolutely correct to say that definitely no ovulation has taken place. “

Tales of the Lazy Ovaries. I always made jokes that my ovaries were lazy, but it turns out that a lazy ovary is a real thing and it is not PCOS. LOL. And I thought I knew everything …

Hi, I’m answering this question based on my own experience as well as my mother's. I’ve very irregular periods, much like yours, and I get this from my mother, obviously. She had trouble having children. I was the first-born, and it took my parents six years of trying before they had me. When my mother talked to a doc about it, he said that this was caused by 'lazy' ovaries, which didn't produce eggs regularly and resulted in fewer periods. I tried for several months to have kids with my husband, to no avail. I hope this answers your question, I don't wish to discourage you because everybody is SO different, I only wanted to share my own experience. Good luck to you!

Irregular periods can sometimes be linked to a condition known as PCOS. Women with PCOS historically have a harder time conceiving, however this isnt always the case. I’ve it and I’ve had three normal pregnancies producing four children. Losing even five pounds can help regulate your weight wonderfully, or if you’re on the thin side, you may want to gain five pounds. You do still ovulate, and have a son already, so you’ll probably get pregnant again, but you may have to spend a bit more effort to track when you ovulate using a Basal body temp thermometer. I certainly never had to try hard at all… Got pregnant my first try. I still had irregular periods until I got myself on a work out routine, which helps regulate the release of androgens as well as your weight. Since I’ve done this I get my periods every twenty-eight days.

Experiences with Provera? Have irregular periods. I’ve 2 children already and my husband and I are trying for our 3rd. My doctor thinks I’ve “lazy ovaries”. My doctor prescribed me Provera (medroxyprogesterone). I’m to take it on CD (cycle days) sixteen through 25. I’ve 2 questions: Has anyone had success with Provera? I know it’s NOT a fertility drug, but it does trick your body in doing what it should naturally do. Secondly, my doctor said it’s safe to take until I get my positive test. (FOR Example, if I conceive on CD 14, I would still take the medication because it would be too early to know if I was pregnant). Were you told the same?

Lazy ovary? Pcos…HELP!! #3534.1. Is it possible the lazy ovary can still be active and I can ovulate from it… I want to have children one day and hoping the odds are not …

Ok I’m kinda confused, why is your doctor having you take provera cd16 thru cd25? That’s crazy. Provera is supposed to induce a period, not cause you to ovulate. Provera won't make you ovulate, it just makes your ovaries shed its lining. Everytime I’ve taken Provera my fertility specialist had me take it, just to start a period, but not on any specific day. If you have irregular periods then you really don't have a cycle to go by. A cycle starts on the first day of your period. After taking Provera it could take you up to two weeks to start your period.IF You start a period before you finish all your pills you stop the pills immediately. How long is your doctor putting you on these pills? After starting your period, then your doctor should monitor you to see if your going to ovulate. You should also ask your doctor about Clomid. Clomid will usually make you ovulate.CLOMID Is also usually prescribed on cd3 to cd7. After taking Clomid, most women ovulate on cd14 but sometimes later. Good luck.
